Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal, two of the most acclaimed talents in today's cinema, brought to the set of Gladiator 2 a competition that goes beyond interpretation, testing themselves on a physical level. Mescal, who followed an intense training course to play the warrior, Lucius, revealed that, although he feels capable of prevailing in a hypothetical real duel, Pascal hides an unexpected strength.

During an interview with Empire, Mescal said that his colleague, known for his performance in The Last of Us, proved to be an unpredictable opponent. “Pedro is one of the greatest entertainers I know, but behind that attitude is a real beast,” the Irish actor revealed, noting how Pascal brought an astonishing energy to their action scenes.

Pascal, for his part, recognized the hard work of Mescal. In a conversation with Vanity Fair, the actor admitted how challenging it was to face a colleague so much younger and physically prepared: “I would rather be thrown off a building than have to fight him again,” joked Pascal, renaming Mescal “Brick Wall Paul” for his imposing muscle mass. Under the visionary guidance of Ridley Scott, Gladiator 2 promises to be an ambitious sequel, capable of even surpassing its predecessor in terms of visual and narrative impact.

Mescal’s dedication to building a body that embodies the power of a warrior was not just a matter of aesthetics but profoundly influenced his approach to the character. Set to hit theaters on November 22, 2024, Gladiator 2 is set to be one of the most anticipated cinematic events of the year, ready to make its mark with its spectacular fights and a storyline that aims to replicate, if not surpass, the grandeur of the original film.
