With anticipation for Joker: Folie à Deux growing, director Todd Phillips has revealed an update on the possible future of the Joker saga. In a question and answer session after a preview screening of the film, Phillips hinted that the story of Arthur Fleck, played by Joaquin Phoenix, could come to a definitive conclusion with this second chapter.

Joker 3: what do we know?

Phillips explained that the reason behind making a sequel was the strong desire to continue to explore and push the boundaries of the character, as he did with Joker in 2019. However, according to the director, the ending of Joker: Folie à Deux could mark the natural conclusion of the narrative. “The story is told,” Phillips said, suggesting that the second film could close the circle started by the first chapter in a satisfying way.

The sequel Joker: Folie à Deux will see Arthur Fleck deal with the consequences of his actions in the first film and cross paths with Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga. This new iteration of the character is introduced as a music therapist who falls in love with Arthur, leading them on increasingly crazed adventures together. The film also stars Zazie Beetz, Ken Leung, Catherine Keener, Steve Coogan, and Brendan Gleeson, all ready to contribute to this continued exploration of Arthur's disturbed mind.
