Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway are teaming up for Paper Tiger, a crime drama from director James Gray. Gray’s last film, Armageddon Time, also starred Hathaway and briefly won an award in 2022. Hathaway’s most recent film is the Prime Video romance The Idea of You, while Driver appeared in Francis Ford Coppola’s controversial Megalopolis. Both actors are known for combining smaller projects with major franchises: Hathaway starred in The Dark Knight Rises and Driver has been a part of the Star Wars universe.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Driver and Hathaway will star alongside Succession star Jeremy Strong in Paper Tiger. The film centers on two brothers whose bonds are tested when they become embroiled in a scheme with the Russian mafia. The actors’ roles have not been specified, although it seems likely that Driver and Strong will play the two brothers. Paper Tiger has begun securing production and distribution details, with CAA Media Finance handling U.S. distribution and Leone Film Group handling international sales. In addition to directing, Gray also wrote the script. Production is expected to begin in early 2025, though a release date has not yet been set.
What it means for Paper Tiger
Driver and Hathaway teaming up on Paper Tiger promises to be an interesting addition to the crime genre. The film, which explores the tumultuous relationships between two brothers caught up in a dangerous scenario, touches on rich themes of loyalty, morality, and the complication of family ties. Gray, known for his nuanced storytelling in previous projects like Ad Astra and Armageddon Time, is poised to delve into those themes along with the psychological and emotional stakes that come with a life of crime.
Hathaway’s proven versatility suggests she’ll bring a unique perspective to the film. The interaction between her and Driver is expected to add to the drama and energy of the film, likely drawing audiences in to witness their dynamic. Paper Tiger offers both actors the opportunity to showcase their talents in a high-octane narrative and could enhance the film’s overall impact.
