Milla Jovovich, known for her role as Alice in the "Resident Evil" series, a film adaptation of a popular video game, has been revealed to be starring in the action thriller "Protector". The Hollywood Reporter reports. In this film, Jovovich plays the role of Nicky, a former war hero. Nicky believes he has left his violent past behind to raise his daughter Chloe healthily, but when he wakes up in an abandoned factory, he finds that Chloe has been kidnapped. Pursued by both the police and the military, Nicky will explore the underworld to get his daughter back...
"The Protector" is said to be a work similar to "Taken" (2008), an action movie starring Liam Neeson in which a father fights to rescue his kidnapped daughter. The director is Adrian Grunberg, who has directed "Rambo: Last Blood" (2019) and "The Black Demon" (2024). The screenplay is written by Bon-Shiv Mun, who will be making his screenwriting debut with this film. Producers include Shiv Mun, Arianne Fraser from "Escape Plan 2" (2018), Delphine Perrier, who worked with Grunberg on "The Black Demon," and Kenneth Kim. Martial artist Ho-sung Park, who served as stunt coordinator for "Transformers: Age of Extinction" (2014), will also participate as producer and stunt coordinator.
"Protector" is being exhibited at the American Film Market 2024, a film industry trade fair being held in Las Vegas.
Having performed intense combat scenes and stunts in the "Resident Evil" series, Jovovich has firmly established herself as an action actor. On the other hand, she has also starred in the profound human drama "The Great Passage" (2000) and the crime suspense film "No Good Things" (2002), and with the acting skills cultivated in various genres of work, it seems that she will be able to skillfully embody the psychology of a mother who tries to save her daughter at all costs.
"Protector" is scheduled to start shooting in New Mexico in 2024. It is also known that Jovovich will once again throw herself into the fight against zombies in "Twilight of the Dead," the latest installment of the "Living Dead" series left by master director George A. Romero.
