The production of the sequel to the 1987 sci-fi comedy film "Spaceballs," which is packed with parodies of "Star Wars" and other films, seems to be progressing too smoothly. Josh Gad, who will be the new lead actor, reported this to Forbs. "Spaceballs" is a film that parodies popular films such as "Star Wars," "Star Trek," and "Alien," and was directed, written, produced, and starred by Mel Brooks. As it is the first live-action sequel to a nostalgic film in about 37 years, it has attracted the attention of fans.
The production studio is Amazon MGM. Josh Gad, a popular comedy actor who played Olaf in the "Frozen" series, will star and produce the film. Gad is currently working hard on the project, reporting, "I won't be put in solitary confinement at MGM, and the script draft is complete." He said, "Everyone who has read it is blown away." Mel Brooks, who directed, wrote, and starred in the original version, will also continue as a producer. "Working on this with Mel was the highlight of my career," he said, and described the sequel's realization as "like a dream you have when you have a fever."
"Mel was incredibly cooperative and involved, which was shocking. It's like a dream that we're able to make the predictions made by Yogurt in the first movie a reality." While he said he couldn't reveal anything more at this point, he said, "We're working on this project every day, every hour, and we're getting closer and closer to making it a reality. We're approaching the final destination soon," suggesting that he will have something to report soon. At this time, the production schedule, release date, and cast information are unknown. We'll have to wait for further news.
