The French horror film Under Paris was one of the surprises of 2024 on Netflix, and that's why the streaming giant has thought about a sequel. Directed by specialist Xavier Gens, and released on Netflix this summer, Under Paris achieved the best launch on the platform for a non-English language film (over 102.3 million views), a significant detail that seems to have convinced the producers to plan a sequel. The news was confirmed in a report by Variety these days.

As reported by the source, director Gens will return for Under Paris 2, as well as the main actors, including Oscar winner "Bérénice Bejo" and Nassim Lyes. Filming is expected to start in September 2025, or a few months later. No details regarding the plot have been anticipated but, given the apocalyptic ending of the first film, it is possible that Under Paris 2 could indeed start from that critical point for humanity.

Under Paris (original title Sous la Seine) tells the story of Sophia (Bérénice Bejo), a scholar interested in the behavior of marine creatures, and her analyses of a curious mako shark that has grown too large. In 2021, following an unsuccessful attempt to collect biological samples, Sophia loses her husband and some of her collaborators and decides to devote herself to something else. In 2024, however, the shadow of the tragedy of three years earlier looms again when an environmentalist reveals to her that the killer shark is, inexplicably, crossing the Seine River.
